This debut carries the same sort of indecisive moodiness that makes middle school a nightmare. Fortunately, for Cloverleaf, this actually results in good. Sometimes the band is the scat-sprinkled "Poison Ivy"--playful, lighthearted. Sometimes it's "Nightmares In Pairs," a downright creepy instrumental track with cryptic narration buried beneath it. Sometimes, it's "Hopeless Romantic," which, belayed by sweet acoustic guitar melodies, is exactly as the name suggests. But perennially brushed with that raspy croon, the album's diversity has just enough connectivity for comfort, whatever you're feeling.
